Introduction
Hi everyone and welcome to our blog! ☺
As you may already know, Disney movies are generally based on fairy tales, folk tales, poems and real events. However, as the original sources are full of dramatic events, the movies have been generally adapted to a mainly child audience in order for them to enjoy happy endings and present them a series of good moral values and models.
However, if we go deeper into the messages rendered in these movies, we may realize that film adaptations such as Pocahontas or The Little Mermaid present ambiguous topics or characters. And this is the reason why this kind of movies have been a subject of discussion in the last decades.
Movies, as any other piece of art destined for a wide public, play a relevant role in the spread of values. Thus, it is important to raise awareness towards the problematic issues presented in these adaptations, taking into account that their main audience are children. In this blog we will try to enlighten the underlying message of some Disney movies and, especially, we will analyze thoroughly certain Disney princesses in the light of the values they seem to be a model of and in the underlying characteristics or stereotypes they represent (misogyny, feminism, racism, misrepresentation, etc).
BUT, first, take this form to check how much you know about Disney!
